However the options available to you can become pretty overwhelming. We have selected what we think is the top 4 things to take into account when converting your VW T6.

Campervan Conversion | Wildworx Alcester

What is a T6 transporter conversion?

Before you begin diving into what you want to add to your van conversion, you will need to know what a T6  conversion is exactly. To put it simply, a T6 is a VW van that can be converted into many different things for multiple reasons. Whether it is a day van conversion you are looking for or a campervan conversion, a T6 will definitely come in handy! When it comes to converting the van, there are numerous different things you can do to it.  So if it is the cosmetic display you are looking to improve or if you want those amazing practical benefits, you should 100% start your journey in converting your very own VW T6.

Why should I convert my VW T6?

This is such a common question people tend to ask when it comes to T6 conversions. However, there is not one simple answer to this. What and why you will be using your van for is entirely up to you. But if you do not have some sort of answer as to why you would like to convert a T6, you are more than capable to do some extra research on different types of van conversions. If it is a campervan conversion you want, cost is a massive benefit. It will provide you with the ability to holiday anywhere you would like, without having to pay for things such as accommodation. As staycations are becoming insanely popular within the UK, wouldn’t it be awesome to have your very own van to take travelling? Whether you want to take your family or friends with you, you certainly will have an experience of a lifetime and it will be worth every minute! You can also convert your T6 into a day van to use for trips such as a day out fishing, or simply as a work van.

1. Cost

When it comes to VW T6 conversions, there are no set prices as it entirely depends on what it is you're hoping to achieve. A full Campervan Conversion can cost anywhere from £15,000 to £50,000. This depends on loads of factors including:

  • Pop top roof brand
  • Bed (RIB or Rock and Roll)
  • Furniture
  • Swivel seats
  • Types of gas tanks (underslung or in vehicle)
  • Appliances
  • Fridge Freezer
  • Electrical system
  • Solar system
  • Leather or fabric seats

Check out our blog which goes through the basics of converting a campervan for more information on costs.

2. Pop top roofs

Pop top roofs are definitely an awesome choice for campervan conversions. Not only are they extremely popular with our customers, but they also come with so many different possibilities such as an extra high raise for sleeping or cooking. They can also be colour coded so they match the beautiful design of your T6, rather than making it look a bit odd. If safety is something you really care about, you should definitely do a lot of research on different companies that produce pop top roofs. It is so important to look for a pop top roof campervan that has gone through meticulous crash testing to ensure that they are as safe as they can possibly be. We can assure you that all the pop top roofs we offer here at Wildworx, meet safety requirements and nothing is of a poor quality.

  • The pop top roof brand
  • Long wheel base or short wheel base
  • The canvas options
  • Is it colour coded?
  • Hinge options
  • Safety accreditation
  • Fastening mechanisms
  • Installation quality

3. RIB Bed

We think the best thing you can put into your campervan conversion is the RIB bed. It's a way better choice that any of the rock and roll beds on the market. It can be more costly.

We don't use any other bed in our Campervan Conversions. The reasons are pretty endless but include:

  • Safety - Fully crash tested and accredited
  • Sleep on the flat (as opposed to the seat side)
  • Large boot space
  • Comfortable seats
  • ISOFIX can be added for children
  • Gives a more luxury campervan conversion finish

RIB Bed will cost somewhere between £2,500 - £6,000. Depending on the following choices.

  • Size
  • Fabric (Leather or fabric)
  • ISOFIX
  • Armrests
  • Headrests
  • Delivery time

4. Safety

Safety is such an important aspect when it comes to any type of van conversion. Here at Wildworx, your safety will always be our number one priority. So if you do end up choosing us to do your T6 conversion, you will never have to worry about safety! Everything we provide on our website meets minimum safety requirements, and will always be of a perfect standard! As we have said previously, we highly recommend you do your own research to ensure you are satisfied with what it is you are purchasing for your VW T6. Whether it is the pop top roof you want to buy or just the roof bars, we strongly suggest you do your own research at home.

When purchasing parts yourself, make sure that it has been fully tested. For example don't buy a pop top roof which hasn't passed the TUV testing

Other things to take into account

Alloy Wheels

Alloy Wheels for your T6 Campervan are most certainly a must when it comes to any van. To put it simply, alloy wheels are wheels that are formed from an alloy of aluminium & magnesium. They come with various different advantages for your T6 such as quicker acceleration, or the ability to stop your van faster. However, it doesn’t stop there! Alloy wheels also provide great cosmetic benefits as they make your van much more visually appealing to allow it to stand out in the crowd and look fabulous. Size wise, we suggest that 18’ or 20’ are the most suitable for VW T6 conversions.

Resprays & Bodywork

Everyone is different when it comes to choosing what they want the bodywork on their van to look like. So because of this, here at Wildworx we are more than happy to complete any unique designs you would like for your T6. However, before you make that decision, it is strongly recommended that you fix any dents or scratches that are on your van. No matter the size, there is no point in having your van modified if it is not in pristine condition! If you are worried about the cost, do not worry. The price to get your van looking as if it is still brand new is a lot less than you think. By doing this, you will then be in the position to start creating your own personal and perfect design! So if it is a half & half respray you want or simply one colour all over, choosing Wildworx to complete this for you will be totally worth it. Here at Wildworx we do have an in house paint shop, where we can complete most of your unique design ideas. You can check out the designs we have completed for our customers by taking a look at our website or social media accounts.

Mistakes

One of the most common mistakes people tend to come across is not having that clear idea of what it is they want exactly. Not only can this make your van conversion journey unnecessarily stressful, but it can also lead to a mismatch in styles and accessories.  We always recommend that you do a little bit of your own homework before making any decision on a campervan conversion. This could be, for example, you writing down a list of reasons as to why you want the van conversion and what you will be using it for or maybe how often you will be using it. Whatever the outcome is, this will most certainly put you in a better position for when you come to choosing what it is you want to add to your T6 transporter.

Can I convert my campervan myself?

Of course you can! As long as you are in the position to complete these ideas yourself for your T6, then go for it! You are definitely going to need to correct equipment and be educated the fullest to achieve the task successfully, which is why we strongly recommend you research as much as you can. We also suggest that you plan out everything it is you intend to do in order to minimise any unsafe problems whilst creating the van of your dreams!
