Buying A Campervan - What Do You Need To Know?

If you’re considering buying a campervan, there are loads of things you should think about.

They are an incredible way to explore the country or even do a big European road trip. They’re comfortable, can be tailored to suit you perfectly and are a fantastic investment as they hold their value incredibly well. Before you pull the trigger, there are a few things to consider when making your choice.

Who will be using the Campervan?

Step one - think about who is going to be using it. Most importantly, you need to make sure that there is enough room for everyone to relax and eventually sleep at the end of the day. For example, we’ve got a few T6s for sale at the minute, they generally seat five passengers and sleep four. Great for holidays with a few friends or your family. That extra seat means that if you’re camping with a group, you not only get to be smug that you’re in an amazing van but you can also offer an unfortunate tent dweller a lift! We’re pretty sure they’d be thankful for the space.

If you’re buying a campervan, you also need to make sure that it has everything you need. What’s your policy on cooking? Are you going to be eating out or getting takeaways a lot? Or are you looking to be able to cook a proper dinner? We think that sorting out meals on-site is part of the experience, which means a gas cooker, fridge/freezer, underslung water tank and enough counter space are all vital. However, that’s not the case for everyone. If you’d prefer you could buy your own vehicle and we can convert it for you, including only what you need.

Are you going to have kids travelling with you? Odds are they’re going to want to be playing outside when you’re parked up. So when buying a campervan it’d be a good idea to check if it comes with an awning and awning rail fitted. This ensures the little ones have got a sheltered place to play in and they won’t be too far away either, which means you can keep an eye on them.

This is a big question, either way, you could end up with something incredible. Naturally, if you’re buying a campervan from us it’s going to be immaculately finished and it will include everything that you could want. But, we also get that some people want to design their own and we can help the conversion as much or as little as you like. 

The thing with conversions is that it can be hard to properly work out everything that you need at the beginning of the process. A lot of people plan what they think they need and on their first time out on the road, they realise that they’re missing something… or several things. It turns what you thought would be a great way to save money into a surprise expense and a tricky first few adventures.
